FORÇA DOS MÚSCULOS VENTILATÓRIOS E O TREINAMENTO CARDIORRESPIRATÓRIO DE IDOSOS

The decrease in the ventilatory capacity of the muscles is related to postoperative respiratory complications and deaths of elderly individuals undergoing surgical procedures in the thorax and abdomen. Objective: To evaluate the effect of chronic cardiorespiratory training on the strength of the ventilatory muscles of elderly individuals. Methods: A sample of 24 individuals was randomized into the following groups: control (n=8), ventilatory training (n=7) and cardiorespiratory training (n=9). The primary outcome (MIP and MEP) was measured by a digital MDV®300 manometer (MDI/Brazil). A descriptive statistical analysis (mean and standard deviation) was performed, followed by a 3x3 ANOVA and Bonferroni post-hoc tests, all with significance of p ≤ 0.05. Results: The Pos test
