TENTATIVAS DE SUICÍDIO POR INGESTÃO INTENCIONAL DE MEDICAMENTOS EM ADOLESCENTES DE UM ESTADO DA REGIÃO NORDESTE DO BRASIL, 2020-2023

Over time, there has been a significant increase in suicide cases among young people and adolescents, rendering this demographic vulnerable to this issue. Given this scenario, this study aimed to characterize the profile of suicide attempts by medication poisoning among adolescents residing in Pernambuco, from 2020 to 2023. Utilizing data from the Information System for Notifiable Diseases of the Unified Health System, we conducted a quantitative epidemiological analysis. The variables considered included health notification region, gender, age group, education, and race/ethnicity. The data were divided into two periods: 2020-2021 and 2022-2023. We observed a total of 4,555 cases of medication poisoning due to suicide attempts in Pernambuco, with the Recife region being the main area of notification in all analyzed years. Regarding the profile of the cases, notifications were predominantly in females, aged 15 to 19, with unknown education level and of mixed race. The majority of cases resulted in recovery without sequelae. We conclude that this issue demands an interdisciplinary and urgent approach, with special focus on the identified groups in this study.
