Benefits of Learning Vocal Music with a Systematic Strategy

Abstract: There are many possible approaches to learning a song, some of which may involve multi-tasking across musical elements, despite research showing that multi-tasking is ineffective. This study compared singer-chosen song learning strategies with a systematic approach. The results showed that the systematic approach resulted in statistically significant improvement in accuracy across words, rhythms, and notes. Further, singers who demonstrated vocal quality changes with their personal approach, showed no evidence of vocal deterioration with the systematic approach. These findings suggest that a systematic approach to vocal music learning enhances both accuracy and efficiency, critical components of vocal performance.
