Mitigating Polymer Damage with Strategically Designed Hydraulic Fracturing Treatments in a Multi Darcy Reservoir
Abstract Mangala Field is one of the world’s largest polymer flood projects and is currently at a total recovery of 37% over 15 years of production. Strategically designed polymer flooding has played a key role in augmenting the production numbers, but over time has posed significant challenges in injector and producer performance. A pilot hydraulic fracturing campaign of 11 wells has shown significant, sustained improvements in productivity index. The fracturing process effectively bypassed the damage caused by polymer injection, resulting in reduced near-wellbore formation damage and improved injectivity. The work progressed from the pilot tests to streamlined fracturing treatments in over 100 wells in the field.
