Urea reduction ratio comparison in central venous catheter and direct femoral vein cannulation for acute hemodialysis

BACKGROUND: In the implementation of acute hemodialysis, it is suspected that there are differences in the effectiveness of both CDL access and direct femoral vein cannulation. This study was aimed to examine the differences in the effectiveness of the two vascular accesses in acute hemodialysis that are widely used in Dr. Hasan Sadikin Hospital.METHODS: This study was a prospective study with a sample of 77 patients undergoing acute hemodialysis at Dr. Hasan Sadikin Bandung. Samples were divided into temporary jugular vein access and femoral vein direct cannulation. The data obtained were analyzed utilizing Mann-Whitney Test and the unpaired t-test.RESULTS: Urea reduction ratio (URR) in the jugular vein CDL group was 70.3±9, while in the femoral vein direct cannulation group was 61.9±15.3. It was statistically significant between both groups with a value of P=0.003.CONCLUSIONS: CDL access in acute hemodialysis has better adequacy of URR than direct femoral vein cannulation access.
