PROGRESS IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF GLOBAL LOW-CARBON HYDROGEN PROJECTS

This article examines the progress in the development of low-carbon hydrogen projects around the world over the period from 1975 to 2043.Based on publicly available data from the International Energy Agency (IEA), containing information on all open hydrogen projects from 71 countries, the study identifies key trends and prospects for widespread adoption of hydrogen technologies. To ensure objectivity, all data from the database was systematized, and projects without key characteristics were excluded from the analysis.Over the entire period, there has been a significant increase in the main characteristics and number of hydrogen projects, with traditional technologies taking the leading position until 2020-2025, and after 2025, the growth rate of electrolysis technologies will significantly exceed traditional non-electrolysis methods.Large-scale implementation of hydrogen projects in the near future can significantly accelerate the achievement of carbon neutrality of the global economy by 2050, which corresponds to the goals of the Paris Agreement on combating climate change. The article highlights the importance of government support, innovative technologies and international cooperation for the further development of the hydrogen sector and the successful transition to a sustainable energy system.
