Proposing a New Fire Diagram Training Method Using 3D Spatial Information and FDS

Firefighting organizations in South Korea conduct training using 2D floor plans, which have limitations in effectively recognizing and securing indoor spatial information. In this study, we propose a novel firefighting training method that utilizes 3D spatial information and the fire dynamics simulator (FDS). This approach improves the identification of heat and smoke behaviors during initial fire responses and enhances spatial awareness through precise 3D camera- acquired information. A survey revealed that 86% of the respondents found 3D-based training highly beneficial, and 80% reported significant aid in applying firefighting tactics. Additionally, satisfaction improved by approximately 34% compared to the traditional 2D method, and FDS-based training showed a 50% increase in satisfaction compared to methods without prior information.
