The Effects of Perceived Health Status and Burnout of Hospital Workers on Health Promotion Behavior, Work-life Balance, and Happiness during the COVID-19

This study explored a structural model that predicted the influencing factors of perceived health status and burnout on health promotion behavior, work-life balance, and happiness among medical workers in university hospitals during the COVID-19 pandemic and verified the relationship between them. This study was conducted on 322 subjects, including nurses, administrative staff, and technical health service staff working at a university-affiliated hospital, from February 21 to February 28, 2022, and collected data were analyzed using SPSS 26.0 and AMOS 26.0.The results of this study showed that individuals' perceived health status positively influenced health promotion behavior (=.235, p<.001) and happiness (=.216, p=.007) but did not directly affect work-life balance.Perceived health status indirectly influences work-life balance through health promotion behavior.Burnout had a detrimental effect on health promotion behavior (=-.432,p<.001), work-life balance (=-.744,p<.001), and happiness (=-.220,p=.045).Factors determining medical workers' happiness included perception of health status, burnout, and health promotion behavior, while work-life balance did not significantly influence their happiness. These results provide valuable insights for developing human resource management strategies for medical center employees, as the dedication and role of these workers can directly impact public health during the pandemic.
