Color Fastness and Damage of Hair Dyed with Parmotrema reticulatum Extract

This study studied the color fastness and hair damage when extracts of Parmotrema reticulatum were repeatedly exposed to shampoo, sun light, and sweat with non-mordanted and mordanted dyes. As a result, the color difference between bleached hair, hair dyed with non-mordanted and Al, Cu, Fe, and Mn mordanted dyes showed color differences of different systems. It was determined that the extract of Parmotrema reticulatum had dyeing properties on hair. When a mordant was used, the dyeing effect was higher than when a mordant was used. The color difference of repeated washing fastness increased, and the color difference of non-mordanted dyed hair was larger than the mordanted one. Therefore, repeated washing is believed to reduce dye ability. Sunlight fastness showed very little color difference in Al, Cu, Fe, and Mn mordants, but non-mordant dyed hair showed a large color difference. The sweat fastness of repeatedly treated in alkaline and acidic sweat fluids showed a greater increase in non-mordanted dyed hair. When repeatedly exposed to shampoo, sunlight, and sweat, the tensile strength dropped by more than 25%. The elongation rate increased but mordanting dyed hair was greater than non-mordanting. so it is believed that mordanting treatment has an effect on hair damage. It is judged that the possibility of using Parmotrema reticulatum extract as a natural hair dyeing raw material is low. In order to develop this extract as a hair dye material, there is a need to improve it through more diverse basic research.
