Literature Review on the Influence of Health on Labor Supply for the Rural Middle Aged and Elderly People

Health, as an important component of human capital, plays an indispensable role in individual labor behavior. Healthy human capital can improve production efficiency, increase labor time, and is an endogenous driving force for long-term stable economic development. Our country's economy has entered a critical stage of shifting from high-speed growth to high-quality development, and the problems of aging population, labor shortage, and insufficient supply are posing challenges to economic development. Compared to young people, the mid-aged and elderly have rich work experience. Improving the labor supply for middle-aged and elderly people is not only beneficial for the full utilization of human resources in an aging society, but also helps alleviate the impact of aging on the social pension security system. This article systematically reviews and objectively evaluates the research on the influencing factors of the health of middle-aged and elderly people in rural areas and the impact of health on their labor supply both domestically and internationally. Based on this, research prospects in related fields are proposed. This article lays the foundation for exploring the influencing factors of individual health and evaluating the influence of health shocks on labor supply for middle-aged and elderly people living in rural China.
