Osteonecrose da cabeça femoral por uso de corticosteroides no tratamento da COVID-19: relato de caso
Non-traumatic osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONHF) is characterized by cell death of osteocytes and alterations in osteoblasts and osteoclasts, often caused by prolonged use of corticosteroids. Other risk factors include autoimmune diseases, alcohol, radiotherapy and infections. This report describes the case of a 55-year-old man who developed ONHF after treatment with corticosteroids for COVID-19. ONHF can be insidious, manifesting with pain and limited movement, with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) being the most effective diagnostic method. Treatment varies from conservative to surgical, depending on the stage of the disease. Early diagnosis and multidisciplinary follow-up are essential for a better prognosis. Future research should focus on developing COVID-19 treatment guidelines that reduce the incidence of ONCF, exploring safe and effective therapeutic alternatives.
