Measures to Secure Fire-Safety Performance in Elevator-type Parking Lots
Since 2010, electric vehicles exceeding the weight that can be parked in mechanical parking lots using an elevator system (hereafter referred to as ‘elevator parking lots’) have been gradually developed and distributed. Owing to the development and distribution of these vehicles, elevator-type parking lots have resulted in social problems, including structural safety problems caused by the cumulative weight of electric vehicles, fires characteristics that cannot be prevented from spreading duringin the event of an electric-vehicle fire, and the risk of secondary accidents resulting in structural collapse owing to heat or explosion (hereinafter referred to as ‘accidental load combination under fire condition’) caused by the vertical diffusion of flames from electric vehicles. Hence, this study aims to improve the safety of society by examining administrative processes and legal matters to secure fire-safety performance in existing elevator-type parking lots, identifying problems after analyzing them, and recommending improvement measures.
