A Study on Domestic Metal waste Countermeasures Against Metal Fires

According to the National Fire Information System of the National Fire Agency, due to the recent increase in the use of aluminum and magnesium, a total of 140 fires caused by water reactive chemicals in the past five years ('18~'22) were reported, with about 1.3 billion won in property damage. In addition, the main cause of fire reports related to metal fires that occurred simultaneously was metal waste powder. Therefore, in this study, fire extinguishing and gas hazard experiments were conducted in accordance with the test standards of ISO 7165 and KS F 2271 using waste generated by domestic metal recycling companies. The effectiveness of fire suppression by the expanded vermiculite and wetting agent was confirmed, and the gas hazards caused by the application of digestive medicine were confirmed by changes in mouse behavior.
