The geological mapping and regional geological evolution analysis of the Lunar 1∶1000000 Schrödinger Basin Sheet (LQ-140)

The digital mapping initiative marks a pivotal achievement in systematically compiling the findings of lunar exploration missions and fostering a comprehensive understanding of lunar geological evolution. The South Pole-Aitken Basin has garnered considerable attention in recent years and is expected to continue doing so in the coming years. However, a significant shortfall persists in the current dearth of comprehensive, detailed mapping of high-latitude regions. To address this, the present study encompasses the high latitudes of the Schrödinger Basin within the SPA basin, designated as LQ140 in accordance with American cartographic standards. Utilizing extensive spectral data and high-resolution imagery sourced from the China Lunar Exploration Project, coupled with historical probe data accumulated by other nations, we conducted a digital geological mapping of the Lunar LQ-140 region using ArcGIS. Additionally, we analyzed the regional geological evolution history and discussed the formation mechanism of the peak ring in the Schrödinger Basin. This work serves as a valuable reference for understanding the late-stage transformation effects of major impact events in the South Pole-Aitken Basin, as well as the formation mechanisms of peak-ring basins.
