Ampelonyms in southern Lazio: dialectal forms and Italianiazations in the first studies in the second half of the 19th century and in the first decades of the 20th century

Starting from the numerous provincial, regional and national ampelographic collections from the second half of the 19th century and the first decades of the 20th century and the oldest dialect lexicons of southern Lazio, and ending with the most recent Italian dictionaries, the study examines the various onomastics of local grapes or considered as such. The basic name is often followed by a long series of synonyms (different names attributed to the same grape variety) and cases of homonymy (different grape vari¬eties bearing the same name) are not rare; it has also been noted that several denomi¬nations, according to the different dialects, have undergone more or less profound modifications.
