Photonic Lattice Physics: Singular states, Rytov Solutions, and Effect of Defects

Recently discovered properties of guided-mode resonant photonic lattices are presented. Singular states appearing as isolated spectral lines are modeled accurately by Rytov-type effective medium theory. Inclusion of defects is shown to transit a lattice from a dark state to a bright state resonance.

Abstract

Recently discovered properties of guided-mode resonant photonic lattices are presented. Singular states appearing as isolated spectral lines are modeled accurately by Rytov-type effective medium theory. Inclusion of defects is shown to transit a lattice from a dark state to a bright state resonance.
