Sub-nanosecond periodic pulsing via gain switching in a large array of semiconductor blue lasers

We report on direct electrical modulation of a 23-laser array emitting at blue wavelength, resulting in gain-switched pulses. Physical properties of the blue lasers can be extracted from the typical sub-nanosecond pulse width.
