The Islamic factor in the marital behavior of Dagestan youth

Introduction. The post-Soviet period of the Russian state was marked by a religious revival, which has now significantly strengthened its position. The basis for such an assertion is the powerful religious processes that are being observed, they are especially pronounced in regions where the population professes Islamic teachings. Theoretical justification. Modern Dagestani society demonstrates a focus on the designation of the authority of Islamic teachings and spiritual leaders who preach the introduction into the daily life of a Muslim of the principles of behavior and relationships with others fixed in the Koran and the Sunnah. The evidence is an increase in the number of religious buildings (mosques), a change in the appearance of men and women, their wearing of Muslim uniforms, and the spread of polygamy. Methods. The methodological basis of the study is the Bogardus scale of social distance, which allows us to identify attitudes towards interpersonal interaction in different social spheres. An empirical study was conducted in 2023 by random selection. The object of the study is Dagestan youth. The subject of the study is the religious attitudes of Dagestan youth in the family and marriage sphere. The place of the survey: Makhachkala, Derbent, Kizilyurt, Khasavyurt, Botlikhsky, Derbent, Kazbekovsky, Kizlyar districts. Distribution by socio-demographic parameters: a) gender: 249 men (48,8%), 261 women (51,2%); b) age: 15–17 years –144 people (28,3%), 18–25 years – 173 people (34,0%), 26–35 years – 193 people (41,7%); c) education:incomplete average – 74 people (14,4%), average – 107 (21,0%), specialized secondary – 173 people (34,1%), higher – 156 people (30,5%); e) attitude to religion: a convinced believer – 198 people (38,8%), a believer – 273 (53,5%), hesitant – 25 people (4,9%), unbeliever – 11 people (2,2%), convinced unbeliever – 3 people (0,6%), N = 510. The results and their discussion. An analysis of the marital behavior of Dagestani youth shows the existence in their mass consciousness of a negative perception of a gentile in the status of a marriage partner. Gender analysis shows conservatism in the positions of the female part, in comparison with the male. The author’s hypothesis about the influence of the level of education on the formation of a tolerant attitude towards an interreligious marriage union is not confirmed by empirical material: the vast majority of the surveyed young generation of Dagestanis are not ready to accept a person of a different religion in the status of a marriage partner. Verification of the empiricist testifies to the dominance of the position on the inadmissibility of official permission for polygamy. The main provisions: the marriage union concluded according to Islamic canons has always been a priority for the Muslim population; Dagestani youth demonstrates social distancing in the family and marriage sphere; Dagestani youth demonstrates an orientation towards maintaining interpersonal interaction in all social spheres, with the exception of family and marriage.
