Filter quality coefficient: a way to optimize parameters of nonwoven used in filter

The process of industrialization has given rise to significant environmental pollution, necessitating the development of effective strategies to achieve desired air quality standards. Filters emerge as pivotal components in our daily lives, serving the crucial role of creating a cleaner and healthier environment. Filtration, as elucidated in this study, entails the separation of particles from fluids by traversing a permeable medium. The experimental apparatus designed for assessing filtration efficiency adhered to the guidelines set forth by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). Analysis of the obtained results revealed that a reduced quadric mathematical model aptly characterizes the intricate relationship between filtration efficiency and input material parameters. Notably, the density of fibers, grams per square meter (GSM), and the interaction effect of fiber denier and density exhibited statistically significant impacts on filtration efficiency. An exemplary filter is distinguished by a higher filtration quality coefficient (Q) value. In this context, the optimal configuration was identified as a 160 GSM nonwoven with a fiber denier of 4.5 and a density of 1.15 among the various samples produced. Furthermore, an avenue for future investigation lies in exploring the effects of machine parameters on filtration efficiency. A comparative analysis with material variables promises to elucidate the distinctive contributions of each factor to the overall filtration performance. This endeavor will enhance our understanding of the intricate interplay between machine parameters and material characteristics in the context of filtration efficiency.
