Multi-physics imaging of salt structures at Nordkapp Basin, Barents Sea
Understanding salt dynamics is crucial in various domains, including hydrocarbon exploration, energy storage, carbon dioxide storage, and geothermal energy applications. In this study, we employed high-resolution magnetic, gravity gradiometry, and seismic data to examine the salt structures within the Nordkapp Basin, located in the Barents Sea. By jointly inverting the magnetic and gravity data with joint entropy constraints, we achieved a coherent reconstruction of the salt diapirs' geometry and internal structures. These models, further refined with seismic imagery, align well with well-log data from this region. Our findings underscore the effectiveness of multiphysics joint inversion in imaging complex structures at a basin scale.
