Application of marine magnetometry and ultra-high resolution marine seismic combined data for geological mapping

Marine magnetic and ultra-high resolution marine seismic are also widely used in offshore hazard site construction surveys for oil and gas facilities. Regulatory standards state that the main purpose of marine magnetic survey is to map the position of offshore structures, in particular pipelines and cables, to identify hazards such as wrecks and UXO. Meanwhile, the possibilities of marine magnetic survey are much wider. Thus, in some cases, magnetic data can help solve the problem of mapping the upper part of geological section and therefore successfully complement ultra-high resolution marine seismic data, which primarily characterizes the geometry of the section but not its petrophysical characteristics. The paper presents an example of combined application of marine magnetic and seismic data in horizontally layered geological section, that is characterized by magnetic characteristics differentiation of the sedimentary rocks.
