Large-scale 3D geophysical electromagnetic field simulation using survey decomposition and blockchain-coordinated massive parallel computing

3D geophysical electromagnetic (EM) field simulation often requires parallel computing for speed-up. However, traditional parallel methods based on MPI and other master-slave models face issues such as poor robustness and scalability at massive scales. Most existing parallel algorithms for geophysics are designed for a single cluster with multiple nodes of the same static configuration. This paper proposes a solution to these challenges by utilizing a blockchain-coordinated competition mechanism for parallel 3D geophysical field simulations. We use a transient electromagnetic forward modeling for mineral exploration as an example to demonstrate some advantages of using blockchain in massive parallel computing.
