Thyroid dysfunction and its relationship to serum lipid levels in adults
Thyroid Dysfunction corresponds to the early phase of a thyroid disorder that predominantly affects middle-aged and elderly individuals. This research analyzes studies conducted in a laboratory, where the relationship between thyroid dysfunction and serum lipid levels was evaluated. The methodology was descriptive and cross-sectional, with a sample of 52 patients, from which 8 were excluded due to unusual findings in the thyroid examination that were unrelated to the requirements of this study. The results revealed a high percentage of patients with serum levels of total cholesterol and triglycerides above the upper normal limit. It is crucial to monitor and regulate thyroid function to prevent complications related to elevated blood lipid levels and to reduce the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases in affected individuals.
