Binary Mixtures of n-Alkylcyclohexanes with Decane: Densities and Speeds of Sound between 288.15 and 333.15 K and Viscosities between 293.15 and 323.15 K at 0.1 MPa
Herein are reported the densities, viscosities, and speeds of sound of two-component mixtures of decane with n-alkylcyclohexanes (methyl, ethyl, n-propyl, n-butyl, n-pentyl, n-hexyl, n-heptyl, n-decyl, and n-dodecyl) and their corresponding excess molar volumes (VmE), excess speeds of sound (cE), excess isentropic compressibilities (ΚsE), and viscosity deviations (Δη). Monotonic increases in mixture densities, viscosities, and speeds of sound were found as the concentration of the component with the higher property value increased and as the temperature decreased. VmE’s, cE’s, KsE’s, and Δη’s ranged from −0.44 to 0.14 cm·mol–1, −1.4 to 16.7 m·s–1, −19.1 to 2.7 TPa–1, and −0.05 to 0.35 mPa·s, respectively. As the n-alkylcyclohexane size increased, the mixture’s VmE’s and KsE’s decreased and their cE’s increased at 293.15 K. For mole fractions of 0.5, the n-hexylcyclohexane/decane mixture had the smallest Δη of all the mixtures at 293.15 K. The signs of VmE and KsE were the same for each mixture, suggesting that the systems with reduced volumes were less compressible and the systems with enhanced volumes were more compressible than the respective space taken up by the individual components. The VmE’s, cE’s, KsE’s, and Δη’s of the decane mixtures followed trends that are consistent with these n-alkylcyclohexanes mixtures with other linear alkanes.
