Exploring Teenagers’ Thoughts, Emotions, and Behaviours in Social Media Design: A Participatory Design Approach
Participatory Design (PD) is a design methodology and a value-centred approach for actively involving real users in the design process. This work aims to gain valuable insights into social media design from the perspective of teenagers, uncovering their thoughts, emotion, and behaviours (T-E-B) in social media design. As social media plays a significant role in teenagers’ life and shapes experiences that promote certain values (while also discouraging others), teenagers are hardly involved in mainstream social media design and development where their thoughts-emotions-behaviors (T-E-B) might be ignored. Hence, the objective of this work is to capture important factors of T-E-B by engaging teenagers to collaboratively design a new social media. The main challenges of this study include 1) how to integrate all the discovered factors to synthesize a new framework and 2) how to measure or evaluate the synthesized framework in terms of its usefulness.
