Damage identification of simply-supported beams based on SD value method

Abstract Combining the relationships among the displacement mode, rotation mode, and curvature mode, this study proposes a structural curvature variance ratio (SD) method that can simplify the calculation and reduce the damage recognition error. Using beam structures in the western region as an example, a finite element model is established, and the impact of the displacement modulus on beam damage recognition is analyzed. The applicability of the SD method for damage recognition is also investigated. In the presence of measurement errors, the SD method and the curvature modulus difference method are compared and analyzed. The results show that this method can effectively identify structural damage, determine the location and quantity of local damage, and simplify calculations while reducing error transmission and amplification.
