Model-Adaptive Feedforward Structure for Enhanced Dynamic Response in SRM Current Controller Based on Operating Point Transformation

In switched reluctance motor (SRM) drives, the linear current controllers are widely employed in the current loop due to their chattering-free operation and ease of implementation. However, the absence of hysteresis control logic in linear controllers leads to a reduced dynamic response. For this problem, a model-adaptive feedforward structure is proposed in this article. First, a voltage feedforward structure is devised to feedforward the voltage output, which is decoupled from the model nonlinearity through an operating point transformation. Second, a model-adaptation system is designed to calibrate the feedforward error online. Compared with the conventional linear controller, the studied one can improve current-tracking performance without requiring extra model information. Finally, experimental validation on an 8-kW SRM platform confirms the superiority of the proposed algorithm.
