Study on the impact of various braiding methods on the properties of class P membrane materials

Abstract This paper investigates the impact of various braiding methods on the properties of class P membrane materials. Mechanical properties of four types of P membrane materials with different braiding directions and forms of the same material were analysed through uniaxial tensile tests. The meridional elastic modulus differs from the zonal elastic modulus, with the latter being approximately 1.2-1.3 times greater. Adjusting the braiding mode alters the mechanical properties of the membrane materials significantly. The weft membrane material exhibits an elastic modulus approximately 1.2 times higher than that of the warp membrane material. Fabric interlaced membrane material outperforms fabric parallel and fabric cross braided membrane materials in mechanical properties. The warp direction serves as the primary braiding direction, leading to superior comprehensive mechanical properties in practical applications for fabric-interlaced braided membrane material.
