Effect of chemical weed control methods on weed dynamics, yield attributes and yield in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.)

The research titled Effect of chemical weed control methods on weed dynamics, yield attributes and yield in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) was conducted during the rabi season of 2022-2023 at Maharishi Markandeshwar University's Research Field in Mullana, Ambala, Haryana. The study aimed to assess the effectiveness of various chemical weed control methods on wheat. Conducted using a randomized block design (RBD) with three replications, the experiment included eight treatments: different herbicides applied individually and in combinations, two hand weeding treatments, and a control with no weeding. The soil is sandy loam with moderate alkalinity, low organic matter, and medium levels of phosphate and potassium. The weed flora included narrow leaf weeds like Phalaris minor and Cynodon dactylon and broadleaf weeds such as Anagallis arvensis, Chenopodium album, Melilotus alba, and Rumex species. Weed density and dry matter were recorded at different wheat growth stages, and weed control efficiency (WCE) was calculated. Yield attributes and yield such as total number of tillers, number of spikes, grains per spike, test weight, grain yield, straw yield, and biological yield were measured. This study provides insights into the effectiveness of different chemical weed control methods on wheat performance and can inform future weed management strategies in similar regions.
