DYNAMICS MODELLING AND SIMULATION IMPLEMENTATION FOR A CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION ON CARS

The continuously variable transmission (CVT) system allows for flexible adjustment of the transmission ratio to adapt dynamically to varying driving conditions and road resistance. The CVT gearbox enables vehicles to accelerate powerfully, smoothly, and with reduced fuel consumption. However, these advantages largely depend on the quality of the CVT control, ensuring appropriate transmission ratios for different driving conditions. Developing a model and designing a control system for CVT gearboxes is a topic of considerable interest among researchers. In this article, the authors focus on developing a model and simulating the continuously variable transmission system, comparing it with mechanically geared transmission systems in terms of dynamic performance, smoothness, and engine response during acceleration. The CVT gearbox chosen for this study includes hydraulic variable modes and a metal belt drive system. The dynamic model serves as the basis for developing control laws for the continuously variable transmission.
