A case of acute oxalate nephropathy due to Averrhoa bilimbi (bilin) juice ingestion in Sri Lanka

Bilimbi fruit is widely consumed in Sri Lanka. Its potential to cause acute kidney injury is relatively unknown among Sri Lankans. We report a case of acute oxalate nephropathy in an adult male following bilimbi juice ingestion. Thorough dietary history and awareness of the potential nephrotoxic effects of bilimbi fruits are useful in the evaluation of kidney injury.
