On‐Surface Covalent Synthesis of Carbon Nanomaterials by Harnessing Carbon gem‐Polyhalides (Adv. Mater. 33/2024)
On-Surface Synthesis Carbon geminal-polyhalides are functional groups in which a carbon atom is functionalized by two or more halogen atoms. In article number 2402467, Nazario Martín, David Écija, and co-workers review their versatile capabilities for generating π-conjugated products on surfaces under distinct stimuli. The frontispiece illustrates the formation of different reaction products by depositing the very same molecular precursor on a substrate held at room temperature and subsequently annealed giving rise to molecular wires, or, alternatively, sublimated on a hot substrate affording unique non-benzenoid compounds.
