Entropy generation analysis for vertical flat and corrugated surface by natural convection and radiation at constant heat flux

Previous literature has explained heat transfer by natural convection, radiation and the effect of entropy generation separately. This study focused on the entropy generation of heat transfer by natural convection and radiation instantaneously from vertical plane and corrugated surfaces. The study was carried out experimentally to test four constant heat flows on corrugated and flat surfaces made of copper foil. According to the values of heat generation for the two surfaces, natural convection accounted for 77 % while the radiation effect is 23 %. Surfaces with corrugations have a higher heat transfer coefficient than surfaces with flat surfaces by 12 %. Furthermore, the corrugated surfaces generated half the entropy of flat surfaces.

Abstract

This study focused on the entropy generation of heat transfer by natural convection and radiation instantaneously from vertical plane and corrugated surfaces. The study was carried out experimentally to test four constant heat flows on corrugated and flat surfaces made of copper foil. Surfaces with corrugations have a higher heat transfer coefficient than surfaces with flat surfaces by 12 %. Furthermore, the corrugated surfaces generated half the entropy of flat surfaces.
