Abstract Insects exhibit intricate social behaviors and a variety of object‐use behaviors. Despite research still being in its infancy, insects have been observed using objects in creative ways across different species. For instance, red imported fire ants use soil to bury food, honeybees apply dung for defense, and spider wasps stock dead ants for nest protection. Tree crickets cut leaves to amplify mating calls, while assassin bugs use plant resin to hunt prey. These examples highlight the intelligence and adaptability of insects, suggesting object use is more widespread than previously thought. Studies on these behaviors could offer valuable insights into the cognitive ability of the animal kingdom (see pages 1001–1014).
