A Fast Subblock Switch Strategy for Segmented Long Primary Linear Machines Based on an Asymmetric Parallel Topology

To shorten the switching process of segmented long primary linear machines (SLPLMs), a fast subblock switch strategy based on an asymmetric parallel topology is proposed in this article. Mathematical models of the SLPLM under parallel and nonfull-phase operation conditions are established, the change laws of currents, voltages and switches states during the switching process are analyzed, and the timeline of the SLPLM model changes during the switching process are introduced. The proposed switch strategy could reduce the current transient overshoot, reduce the time difference between turning off of the three-phase triode AC semiconductor switches (TRIACs) and shortens the switching time. The effectiveness of the proposed subblock switch strategy is verified on an experimental platform with a double-sided SLPLIM.
