STCLC is a rare T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder that occurs primarily in the setting of acute EBV infection, usually presenting as HLH. It is a rapidly progressive and fatal disease of children and young adults characterized by monoclonal expansions of EBV-positive T-cells with an activated cytotoxic phenotype and by malignant proliferation. The mortality rate is close to 100%.
