Recovery of recycled asphalt for possible reuse in pavement maintenance works
Maintenance and rehabilitation work on pavement structures produces large quantities of waste, which can be recycled. Recycling of pavement materials has become an urgent necessity, with regard to environmental protection, to save resources, reduce energy consumption and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The present work deals with an experimental study which aims to recycle the millings and their valorisation in a formulation of a new bituminous concrete whose characteristics are desired close to those of a classic bituminous concrete and especially in the Saharan regions, where temperatures are often high. In this research, the properties of a milled asphalt concrete formulation, such as stability and Marshall creep, under different thermal conditions were examined. The material was tested experimentally for several values of bitumen content, to see its behavior. The formulation obtained with 5.18% of bitumen content gave satisfactory results in terms of stability and creep compared with that of ordinary bituminous concrete. Through our study, new horizons have opened in this field which can solve many problems.
