Investigating the Impact of Concentricity on the Confinement Energy of Concentric Cylindrical CdSe/ZnS Quantum Dots Using a Modified Brus Equation

The electronic properties of quantum dots are vital for optoelectronic applications, making it essential to understand how geometric alignment affects these properties. This study investigates the impact of concentricity on the confinement energy of concentric cylindrical CdSe/ZnS quantum dots using a modified Brus equation derived from first principles from the Time-Independent Schrödinger Equation (TISE).The modified equation adapts the spherical geometry-specific Brus equation to accommodate cylindrical geometry by incorporating a shape factor term and confinement length.By varying concentric displacement () and quantum number (n), we calculated confinement energy (E C ) and observed a significant increase in E C with increasing δ, particularly for higher quantum numbers.Notably, E C increased by up to 68.5% for = 3 and = 1.2 , demonstrating the critical role of concentricity in determining quantum dot electronic properties. Our findings provide a quantitative framework for understanding the interplay between concentricity and quantum confinement, enabling the optimization of quantum dot geometries for enhanced optoelectronic performance and tailored quantum dot design.
