A Concept-Based Active Learning ActivityApproximately 1.45 million Americans have type I diabetes mellitus (T1DM), with newly diagnosed cases increasing annually by 64,000 (Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund, n.d.).Nursing graduates need the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to provide high quality care to these patients; however, knowledge gaps persist.Through clinical interactions, faculty identified students were unable to describe the effects of a T1DM diagnosis on patients or their support system and lacked confidence in their ability to provide basic T1DM education.
