An Enhanced KD-Tree-Based Ray Tube Subdivision SBR for Fast RCS Prediction

An enhanced K-dimension (KD)-tree-based ray tube subdivision shooting and bouncing ray (SBR) method is proposed for fast radar cross section (RCS) prediction of electrically large targets. In the enhanced subdivision process, according to the position code of the leaf nodes intersected by the parent ray tube, the traversal process of the child rays starts directly from the deepest common node instead of the root node. In addition, an improved ray tracing process is proposed to avoid double ray tracing. The neighbor search technique also seamlessly integrates with the new SBR to accelerate the high-order ray tracing. The highly compatible integration of multiple acceleration techniques enables the new SBR to realize cumulative acceleration. Simulation examples validate the accuracy and high efficiency of the new SBR with acceptable and stable RAM consumption.
