Correction to ‘Sterols of the aberrant plastid, Kareniacean dinoflagellate Asterodinium gracile: Chemotaxonomic overlap with amphisterol‐producing Amphidinium carterae’

Due to a misreading of the data table in Kokke et al. (1981), 4-methyl-5-ergosta-8(14)-en-3-ol (sterol 6) of Asterodinium gracile was incorrectly attributed to Amphidinium carterae in the Summary section.Rather, it was found in Glenodinium sp.The following corrections have been made:1.The sentence in page 154 "Detection of amphisterol and 4-methyl-5-ergosta-8( 14)-en-3-ol is notable because they are sterols associated with some species of Amphidinium, such as Amphidinium carterae, and, to our knowledge, have not been observed in a member of the Kareniaceae before." is incorrect and should read: "Detection of amphisterol is notable because it is associated with some species of Amphidinium, such as Amphidinium carterae, and, to our knowledge, has not been observed in a member of the Kareniaceae before."2. The sentence in page 155 "The stereochemistry of the C24 methyl group is uncertain, and so we make no distinction between R and S; however, this same sterol has been observed by Kokke et al. (1981) as 4,24S-dimethyl-5-cholest-8( 14)-en-3-ol in A. carterae (discussed below)." is incorrect and should read: "The stereochemistry of the C24 methyl group is uncertain, and so we make no distinction between R and S; however, this same sterol has been observed by Kokke et al. (1981) as 4,24S-dimethyl-5-cholest-8 ( 14)-en-3-ol (discussed below)."3. The sentence in 156 "As described by Kokke et al. (1981) in A. carterae, the presence of this sterol in A. gracile presents another chemotaxonomic overlap with amphisterol-producing species of Amphidinium."should be deleted.4. The sentence in pgae 157 "Rather, A. gracile presents a profile of 4-methylsubstituted, 8( 14) -nuclear-unsaturated major sterols that is seemingly unique amongst the Kareniaceae with some overlap with amphisterol-and 4-methyl-5-ergosta-8( 14)-en-3-ol producing species of Amphidinium" is incorrect and should read: "Rather, A. gracile presents a profile of 4-methylsubstituted, 8( 14) -nuclear-unsaturated major sterols that is seemingly unique amongst the Kareniaceae with some overlap with amphisterolproducing species of Amphidinium."We apologize for any confusion caused.
