Meeting reports
This Biochemical Society-sponsored event brought together 80 researchers operating at the forefront of structural biology, biophysics and metabolomics. The event provided an invaluable platform for early career researchers (ECRs) to present their work and highlighted how fundamental research can drive societal advancements and translate into clinical understanding and real-world applications. A total of 12 talks were given by ECR speakers spanning from PhD students to Research Fellows. Topics included use of biophysical approaches to characterize host–microbiome interactions and metabolic diseases, NMR applications to guide protein design and study RNA binding mechanisms, and use of NMR coupled with molecular dynamics simulations to study intrinsically disordered proteins. Dr Martin Rees and Ms Zoe Hoare were awarded Biochemical Society-sponsored prizes for outstanding research presentations, having delivered clear and engaging talks showcasing exceptional research novelty and innovation.A particular highlight of the meeting was the opening Biochemical Society-sponsored lecture given by Professor Teresa Carlomagno (University of Birmingham, UK), who presented a tour de force showcasing the full power of integrated structural biology approaches to characterize biological system at a molecular level. We feel the day was a success exceeding our aims and expectations, with excellent audience engagement and lively debates that carried on into the poster sessions and coffee breaks. We are planning to run this event again in 2026.Find out more about the event and programme on Centre for Biomolecular Spectroscopy at King’s.
