Synthesis, Characterization, and Anti-Hyperglycemic evaluation of Ni (II) complexes of sodium Barbitone and Metformin
The menace of diabetic mellitus (DM) has been a major challenge to scientists globally and is linked with several commercial and sociologic problems. The aim of this work was to synthesise, characterise and determine the anti-hyperglycemic activities of Nickel (II) complexes of metformin and sodium barbitone.Three compounds, Ni(II) complex of metformin [Ni(Met)2], metformin-sodium barbitone complex [Ni(Bar)2] and mixed ligands of the complex [Ni(Met)(Bar)], were synthesized using infrared and ultraviolet-visible spectroscopies. The synthesised complexes' anti-hyperglycemic activity was evaluated using male and female Wistar albino rats.25 rats were grouped into 5 groups, with 5 rats in each group.Hyperglycemia was induced into the rats via administration of 150 mg/kg of alloxan to mediate the induction of type 2 DM and thus increase their blood glucose level. The anti-hyperglycemic activity of metformin and the synthesized complexes evaluated in all the rats dfferent treatment groups shows the anti-hyperglycemic efficacy of Synthesis …
