Significance of incidental thyroid 18F-fluorocholine uptake in patients with hyperparathyroidism imaged for localizing hyperfunctioning parathyroid glands
Incidental 18 F-fluorocholine uptake in the thyroid gland was observed in 13% of patients. As reported for 18 F-FDG, focal 18 F-fluorocholine uptake might represent thyroid cancer and should be evaluated with ultrasound and, if indicated, with fine-needle aspiration cytology. Diffuse 18 F-fluorocholine uptake most likely represents multinodular goiter or Hashimoto's thyroiditis.
