Early Neutron Reliability Assessment of an Arm Cortex-M4 through Emulated Fault Injection
This study investigates radiation-induced software failure detection in embedded processors from the Cortex-M family. Our methodology involves conducting neutron irradiation experiments and linking them with emulated fault injection to establish a benchmark for applications. We conducted experiments on a series of case studies in bare-metal environments using various cache configurations, customizing our approach for potential deployment in small satellite missions. Our findings demonstrate a strong correlation between irradiation and fault injection, providing valuable insights to designers for the development of more robust fault tolerance mechanisms.
