Schubert geometry and combinatorics

Local properties of Schubert varieties can be studied using combinatorial and computational commutative algebra and combinatorial ideas related to pattern avoidance. At the core, this involves studying certain ideals generated by determinants of matrices of 0s, 1s, and variables. We give an introduction to these methods as well as a survey of results that have been obtained and questions that might be answered with these methods.

Abstract

Local properties of Schubert varieties can be studied using combinatorial and computational commutative algebra and combinatorial ideas related to pattern avoidance. At the core, this involves studying certain ideals generated by determinants of matrices of 0s, 1s, and variables. We give an introduction to these methods as well as a survey of results that have been obtained and questions that might be answered with these methods.
