Mechano-sorptive deformation in timber

Mechano-sorptive deformation of wood plays a significant role in the deformation and strength of timber construction. A literature review indicates that the available information of mechano-sorptive deformation is probably not adequate for structural design purposes. More reliable quantified information is required on the effects of moisture and stress levels, particularly high stress levels, on the magnitude of mechano-sorptive deformation. More information is also required on the nature of the deformations incurred during several thousand climate cycles.

Abstract

Mechano-sorptive deformation of wood plays a significant role in the deformation and strength of timber construction. A literature review indicates that the available information of mechano-sorptive deformation is probably not adequate for structural design purposes. More reliable quantified information is required on the effects of moisture and stress levels, particularly high stress levels, on the magnitude of mechano-sorptive deformation. More information is also required on the nature of the deformations incurred during several thousand climate cycles.
