For better and/or for worse: Complexity and person hierarchies

Implementation of person hierarchies in verb inflection can produce indexationparadigms that are very complex by the usual standards for measuring complexityin paradigms. Criteria are proposed here for measuring hierarchical patterns intheir own terms and more generally for describing relational, linear, andblueprint-driven properties of grammar.

Abstract

Implementation of person hierarchies in verb inflection can produce indexationparadigms that are very complex by the usual standards for measuring complexityin paradigms. Criteria are proposed here for measuring hierarchical patterns intheir own terms and more generally for describing relational, linear, andblueprint-driven properties of grammar.
