Effects of frost depths of the ground to the degrees of liquefaction in Kushiro region under the seismic activities of 1993 Kushiro-Oki Earthquake
Ground deformations at many sites occurred around the Kushiro city at the time of the 1993 Kushiro-Oki Earthquake (Richter Scale 7.8). This paper discusses the ground deformations generated around the Kushiro city by the 1993 Kushiro-Oki Earthquake, connected with the frozen ground. The relations among the satellite image, the ground deformation, and the frozen ground are aiso analyzed by using remote sensing satellite data. In addition, to confirm the image analysis result, on—the—spot investigation was done. It is forecast that it was a factor by the frozen ground to reduce the damage of ground such as liquefactions and landslides comparatively.
