A framework for managing patient safety as an organisational phenomenon

Care delivery is an organisational responsibility. The evolution of models of care, treatment regimes and available technologies in conjunction with economical and temporal pressures make health care systems among the most complex organisations in industrial landscape nowadays. Hence the provision of safe health care services cannot rely exclusively on singular behaviours, and it cannot be simply explained in terms of ability and carefulness of practitioners.

Abstract

Care delivery is an organisational responsibility. The evolution of models of care, treatment regimes and available technologies in conjunction with economical and temporal pressures make health care systems among the most complex organisations in industrial landscape nowadays. Hence the provision of safe health care services cannot rely exclusively on singular behaviours, and it cannot be simply explained in terms of ability and carefulness of practitioners.
